About Tallinn University

Tallinn University was founded in 2005 as a public university, and is the largest university of humanities in Tallinn and the third biggest public university in Estonia. Tallinn offers and develops education and research focusing on the needs of Estonia as a society. Tallinn University is very strongly committed to internationalisation.

Tallinn University is situated in a compact campus within the city centre. In front of the University there is the "Tallinn University" tram stop, behind the university, only a few hundred metres away, stands the sea gate of Estonia - Port of Tallinn. Only a few hundred metres away you can find the peaceful Kadriorg Park and the Presidential Palace.

As the capital and largest city in Estonia, Tallinn is a major European political, cultural and educational centre. Often called the Europe’s answer to Silicon Valley, E-Estonia has the highest number of startups per person in Europe and is the birthplace of many international companies including Skype. It is also the home of the NATO Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence.

About Tallinn Summer School

Tallinn Summer School contains a wide range of courses with a rich, diverse cultural program and attracting participants from all over the world. In addition to a variety of social events, participants visit museums, historical sights, places of cultural importance, and see some of the nature of Estonia on weekend trips to different locations within the country.

Under this sponsored program, students MUST participate in a study abroad program with duration of minimum consecutive 4 weeks and all HKUST-nominated students are requried to participate in a course specifically for HKUST students only before the official program commencement. Students can choose one of the below options: 

Option 1: (6-10 Jul 2026) Introduction to Estonia and Finno-Ugric Cultures + (13-31 Jul 2026) Estonian Language or Russian Language course
Option 2: (6-10 Jul 2026) Introduction to Estonia and Finno-Ugric Cultures + (13-31 Jul 2026) Take credit-bearing courses that form a study program with duration of minimum 3 consecutive weeks (excluding weekends). Please note that students cannot choose "English Language (13 -31 July 2026)" under this sponsored program.

5 -31 July 2026 (4 weeks)

Notes:

• Host Institutions may provide orientation activities for students, with some mandatory, which you should attend. You are required to pay attention to the host institution's arrival information and arrive in time.
• You should only depart after completion of the program (i.e. finishing all final examinations and/or assessments, both compulsory and optional ones).

Completion requirements

Students are required to complete the program to be awarded the credits following the requirements of the host institution. Students are also required to arrive by the program start date, and are not allowed to leave the program before the last program date or class or exam, whichever is later. Students who do not complete these requirements will not be allowed to receive any subsidies/sponsorships/scholarships issued by HKUST. In addition, since this program is sponsored by HKUST, students who do not complete these requirements are required to repay HKUST for the sponsored amount.

Tallinn Summer School has different requirements for each course. If there are any special requirements, they are listed under the course description. It is the student’s responsibility to confirm the program completion requirements with the host institution before the start of the program.

Fees

This is a sponsored program and HKUST will sponsor the tuition, accommodation and cultural programme fees. HKUST students will bear other costs such as travel, visa, insurance, personal expenses and other administrative fees.

Fee payment arrangement

• Students will be required to pay the tuition and accommodation fees first directly to the host institution. The sponsorship amount for the tuition and accommodation fees which you have paid in foreign currency will be calculated based on an exchange rate adopted by HKUST and will be reimbursed to you upon fulfillment of ALL requirements listed under "Program Completion" section in HKUST Summer Study Abroad main program brochure page. 
• If you withdraw from the program after acceptance or fail to fulfill the above requirements, sponsorship amount for the fees listed will not be reimbursed to you.
